Welcome to ORSI- Chennai Chapter

"The aim of the Operational Research Society of India (ORSI) is to promote the education and applications of Operational Research in the day to day environment in Business, Industry and other organisations. ORSI was founded in 1957 and the Chennai chapter is one of the chapters of the country."



Systems Engineering is also referred as Engineering of large scale systems, which is basically multidisciplinary in nature. Motivating research scholars who are working in the disciplines of Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, and any branch of Engineering, Science, and Management, on inter disciplinary projects, is the basic objective of the Systems Engineering Research Foundation (SERF). It is proposed to invite nominations from researchers every year who are working on research projects which are basically interdisciplinary in nature. From among those nominations, the duly appointed jury will select the best project for the SERF award.

Eligibility – SERF award

Research Scholars/ Students completing the requirements for their doctoral degrees in Systems and Industrial Engineering related topics from any University are eligible. Research scholars will be invited to submit their dissertations for the competition.

Selection Criteria

A team of Judges will be appointed to review the submitted works based on the quality of the dissertation, contribution to the theory and practice, originality and appropriateness of the research methods, technical competence in the execution of the research, and the value of the findings in contributing to knowledge in Systems and Industrial engineering.

Operational Details

Initially SERF will be operated under the control of the ORSI Chennai chapter. Coverage of the award initially may be limited to the scholars in India. Based on the experience gained after one or two years, it may be extended to all the institutions across the world. The award includes a certificate along with a citation. After one year, based on the experience gained, the scope of the foundation will be reviewed by the executive committee of the ORSI Chennai chapter.
